Marc Marquez revealed that Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia has not contacted him following the announcement of his new deal with Ducati. The two riders will be factory Ducati teammates in the 2025 MotoGP season, creating a potentially intense dynamic between two title contenders.
When asked by AS if Bagnaia had congratulated him on his new contract, Marquez smiled and responded, “No, no, but the CEO of Ducati called me and conveyed his congratulations.” This indicates that while Bagnaia has remained silent, Ducati’s top brass has extended their welcome.
Marquez was also queried about the upcoming atmosphere in the factory Ducati garage next year. He emphasized the need for maintaining calmness within the team environment despite the fierce competition on the track. “The box has to be calm,” Marquez insisted. “The war, on the track, the box calm.”
Securing a seat with Ducati, Marquez edged out Jorge Martin from Pramac, the current championship leader, for the coveted spot. Reflecting on this, Marquez remarked, “This is life, it is sport. I’m not happy when a rider is left without a motorcycle.” He acknowledged the inherent selfishness in professional sports, where everyone strives for the best opportunities. “And the best was the red motorcycle, the Ducati, the one we were able to get. You have to play all your cards.”
Marquez highlighted that his performance on the track was a significant factor in securing the deal. “The card that weighs the most is the track and the Ducati engineers, as they have told me, are watching my progression with the 2023 bike. That has weighed much more than the rest. Then, there are other factors too.”
As Marquez prepares to join Ducati, the focus will be on how the team manages the dynamic between him and Bagnaia, ensuring that while the competition remains fierce on the track, the environment within the team remains harmonious. This balance will be crucial for Ducati as they aim for success in the upcoming seasons.
