Marc Marquez: ‘If Gigi Dall’Igna Left Ducati, I’d Ask Where Are You Going?’

Marc Marquez has emphasized how crucial Gigi Dall’Igna’s presence at Ducati was in his decision to sign with the team for the 2025 season. Marquez’s arrival strengthens Ducati’s rider lineup, with Dall’Igna, an engineering genius, at the helm.

Marquez made it clear that Dall’Igna’s commitment was a dealbreaker for him. “With Gigi, we have always had a very direct and sincere relationship,” he told AS. “I am at Ducati because of Gigi Dall’Igna. He is the engineer who has won whatever he has touched.”

One of the key questions Marquez asked during their discussions was about Dall’Igna’s future at Ducati: “For me, the most important thing about ’25 and ’26 is that you are still at Ducati, right? Because if not, we don’t even need to sit down.”

Marquez stressed the importance of Ducati’s Corse department and the unique bond he developed with the Ducati family. He felt the team’s spirit and commitment only after becoming part of it, not before.

When asked what he would have done if Dall’Igna had plans to leave, Marquez said, “It depends. Maybe I would have asked-him: ‘Where are you going?’ Gigi has been very important; the conductor has always been there.”

Marquez revealed that he had contact with Ducati in 2017 and 2018 but declined their offers because he was content at Honda and did not want to engage in a bidding war. “When I have something clear, I go for what I feel, and what I felt was being at Ducati.”

With his eyes set on the MotoGP title in 2025, armed with the GP25, Marquez is determined to fight for his seventh championship. Despite being in contention this year as a Gresini rider on older machinery. He looks forward to at least two seasons with Ducati’s official team to achieve his goal.
