KTM have clarified that there were never “concrete talks” to sign arc Marquez, despite widespread speculation about the Spanish rider’s future. Marc Marquez has since confirmed a move to the factory Ducati team for the next season.
Rumors had suggested that KTM were keen to bring Marc Marquez into their fold. However, KTM announced that Pedro Acosta would be moving up from their Tech3 GASGAS project to join the official team.
“Our priority has always been Pedro Acosta,” said Pierer Mobility Group board member Hubert Trunkenpolz to GPOne. “We never entered concrete negotiations with Marc Marquez, as securing Pedro Acosta for 2025 and 2026 was our main focus.”
Pedro Acosta has had a remarkable rookie season in the premier class, achieving two podium finishes and currently standing fifth in the MotoGP rankings after seven rounds, making him the highest-placed non-Ducati rider. At just 20 years old, he will replace Jack Miller and join Brad Binder in the official KTM lineup next season.
“We aim to give Pedro Acosta the space and opportunity to become a superstar with us,” Trunkenpolz continued. “Having Marc Marquez as his teammate would overshadow his growth and development. Pedro Acosta aspires to become MotoGP champion while Marc Marquez is still competing, and we fully support him in this pursuit.”
Marc Marquez and Pedro Acosta have had some on-track battles this season, setting the stage for a potential rivalry. With both riders set to have full factory support next season, their competition could intensify into a title battle in 2025.
