Jorge Martin Sets Deadline for Ducati Contract Talks, Eyes KTM Move

Jorge Martin, currently leading the MotoGP standings, has reportedly set a deadline for Ducati to initiate contract negotiations before he explores the possibility of joining KTM.

As a rider for Pramac, Martin narrowly missed out on the 2023 championship title at the final round. He is now in contention with Marc Marquez from Gresini and Ducati’s Enea Bastianini for a coveted seat in the Italian manufacturer’s 2025 lineup, alongside Pecco Bagnaia.

Despite his impressive performance, Ducati has twice passed over Martin for promotion within its ranks, prompting him to issue an ultimatum to the manufacturer. He has informed Ducati that they have until June 2, coinciding with the Italian MotoGP at Mugello, to extend a contract offer for a spot in the factory team next year. Should Ducati fail to meet this deadline, Martin plans to explore opportunities with KTM.

KTM, which has secured Brad Binder and Pedro Acosta for their 2025 MotoGP lineup, sees itself as a potential destination for Martin. While a move for Marquez is considered unrealistic for the upcoming season, KTM remains open to Martin’s return. They could offer a competitive salary, potentially supplemented by a Red Bull sponsorship deal.

Despite Martin’s past departure from KTM on less than ideal terms, the Austrian manufacturer harbors no ill feelings. Pit Beirer, KTM’s motorsport director, emphasized that while Martin’s exit was disappointing, the team respects his career decisions and acknowledges his current success.

“Grass has definitely grown over this matter,” Beirer stated. “Martin did everything right for his career and is now the championship leader.”

With Ducati on the clock to secure Martin’s commitment, the rider remains poised to explore all available options, including a potential reunion with KTM.
