Joan Mir Reflects on Honda’s Performance and Future

Joan Mir, currently in the final year of his Honda contract, expressed doubts about his future with the team amidst ongoing performance issues with his bike. Joan Mir, speaking ahead of the Catalunya MotoGP, admitted that he is considering his options for the 2025 season based on his team’s plans for improvement.

Reflecting on the current situation, Mir expressed concern about the lack of progress in bike performance compared to the previous year. He emphasized the importance of understanding when the team will become competitive before making a decision about his future.

Mir acknowledged the risk of delaying his decision amidst the fast-moving rider market, where coveted bikes are being secured by other riders. However, he remains focused on assessing Honda’s progress and ensuring that any decision aligns with his goals for competitive performance.

Despite recent testing at Mugello, Mir clarified that any upgrades seen during the test will not directly influence his decision to stay at Honda. He emphasized the need for consistent progress and improvement to address the bike’s weaknesses.

Regarding Honda’s Mugello upgrades, Mir highlighted the productive nature of the test and the focus on aerodynamics and engine configurations. While improvements have occurred, Mir emphasized the significance of addressing weak points to convert them into better lap times.

Despite the challenges, Mir expressed confidence that Honda is moving in the right direction in terms of evolution and improvement. He emphasized the importance of continued effort and progress to achieve competitive performance in the upcoming races and seasons.
