After a career filled with triumphs and emotional moments, Aleix Espargaro has announced his retirement from MotoGP following a crash during the Spanish MotoGP Sprint race. The 34-year-old made his decision public at a press conference in Barcelona, revealing that his choice to retire had been brewing since before the races at COTA and Jerez.
Espargaro shared that as he prepared for the American races, he began feeling a reluctance to leave his family behind and go racing. Recognizing that his commitment to the sport was wavering, he knew it was time to step away. His decision solidified after a crash during the Sprint race at Jerez, prompting him to call his wife and declare, “Laura, this is the end.”
Despite the difficulty of keeping his retirement a secret until the official announcement, Espargaro expressed relief once it was made public.
