Acosta Secures Factory KTM MotoGP Seat for 2025

Pedro Acosta, the 20-year-old MotoGP sensation, has earned a promotion to KTM’s top team after just six rounds of his rookie season, during which he has already secured two grand prix podiums and competed fiercely with champions like Marc Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia.

“It was important to me to keep pushing with KTM and see the whole project and story grow,” said Acosta. “Getting in orange feels like coming back home. Their recent improvements are what motivate me to stay for the next couple of years.”

KTM has supported Acosta since his early days in grand prix racing, effectively securing him a premier class ride while he was still in Moto3 in 2021. He made his MotoGP debut this year as the reigning Moto2 champion. Joining the GasGas-branded Tech3 satellite squad with a factory RC16 and KTM-supplied engineers.

Impressively, Acosta has been the top-scoring KTM rider in the early part of the 2024 season, currently sitting sixth in the championship, Brad Binder, a factory KTM rider, is under contract until the end of 2026.

Many widely anticipated Acosta’s promotion to the factory KTM squad for 2025, but the official announcement came sooner than expected, before the summer break. He will replace Jack Miller, who is in his second season with KTM after moving from Ducati.

KTM had expressed disappointment with the performances of Miller and Augusto Fernandez. With both riders currently 15th and 17th in the standings and scoring only 40 points combined, compared to Acosta’s 83.

Despite the reshuffle, KTM isn’t necessarily ending Miller’s future with the team. As they are considering moving him to the GasGas team.

KTM Motorsports Director Pit Beirer commented, “It gives us great pleasure to announce this news. Pedro’s speed and personality are winning him fans globally. From his early days in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, we saw he was special. His unique mentality and approach make him stand out in MotoGP.”

Beirer also acknowledged the contributions of the KTM GP Academy and Aki Ajo in Acosta’s development. “We are thrilled to continue this journey with Pedro. He has a very bright future in MotoGP, and we look forward to the next chapter of his career with us.”
