This year’s Indian MotoGP event has officially been canceled, with plans in place for its return in March 2025.
Amid rumors, Kazakhstan is set to fill the slot on the 2024 MotoGP calendar, replacing India.
Originally scheduled for June 14-16, the debut of the Sokol International Racetrack was postponed due to flooding in the region.
Despite assurances from the Indian MotoGP promoter that the September 20-22 round would proceed. Concerns arose about its potential replacement by Kazakhstan.
Pushkar Nath Srivastava, CEO of Indian MotoGP co-promoter Fairstreet, reassured that all contractual obligations would be fulfilled by June, citing restrictions related to the General Election as the reason for the delay.
However, MotoGP organizers announced the cancellation of this year’s Indian event on Wednesday. Citing ‘operational considerations,’ presumably referring to weather conditions. Last year’s event provided insight into the September weather conditions (air temperature 33°, humidity 65%, track temperature 39°).
The FIM, IRTA, and Dorna Sports jointly declared the postponement of the Indian Grand Prix to early 2025, based on advice from the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The sport is set to return to the Buddh International Circuit in March 2025. Anticipating optimal weather conditions for both spectators and riders.
With the March date, India is positioned to potentially host round two of the 2025 world championship, following Qatar’s premium season opener status.
