The rivalry between UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and former challenger Jamahal Hill took a dramatic turn on Thursday when the two fighters had a heated confrontation at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
The animosity between the two, fueled by months of public back-and-forth through interviews and social media exchanges, came to a head when Hill approached Pereira during a training session. In the video, posted by Full Send MMA, Hill confronted Pereira, saying, “Not on Twitter now,” as the Brazilian fighter extended a fist bump. The situation quickly escalated as both fighters became increasingly agitated.
“Put the gloves on,” Pereira reportedly said in Portuguese, challenging Hill to a sparring session right then and there. The situation intensified, with both fighters exchanging words until Pereira’s longtime coach, Plinio Cruz, intervened to prevent the confrontation from turning physical. Cruz reminded the fighters that they are professionals who get paid to fight in the cage, not in the gym.
Hill responded defiantly, telling Pereira, “It’s coming. I’ll get that money from that boy being asleep.” As tensions simmered, several fighters looked on before the two men eventually moved away from each other, avoiding a full-blown altercation.
The bad blood between Pereira and Hill dates back to UFC 300, where Pereira defended his light heavyweight title with a brutal knockout of Hill. The fight ended controversially after a low blow prompted a referee stoppage, allowing Pereira to land a decisive punch after the fighters were briefly separated. Hill later expressed frustration, calling the knockout unfair due to the timing of the low blow.
In recent weeks, the rivalry has intensified with both fighters exchanging barbs. Pereira has taunted Hill, advising him to focus on his upcoming fight with Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 before getting another chance at him. Hill, in turn, fired back, questioning Pereira’s courage and claiming the Brazilian waited until the referee intervened to land a decisive shot.
As the two continue to trade jabs, Hill’s upcoming fight against Prochazka at UFC 311 has taken on added significance, while Pereira’s attention is now turning to his next title defense, likely against Magomed Ankalaev in 2025.
The altercation at the UFC Performance Institute is just the latest chapter in what has become one of the most intense rivalries in the division, and it seems that the two fighters are far from finished with their feud.
