Jorge Masvidal is eyeing a high-profile return to the UFC in April 2025, and he has set his sights on two major names for his comeback bout—Conor McGregor and Leon Edwards.
The former UFC welterweight title contender, known as the original BMF (Baddest MF) champion, plans to make his long-anticipated return at UFC’s anticipated pay-per-view event in Miami. While he is open to facing Edwards, Masvidal is particularly eager to square off with McGregor, citing their shared history and the potential for a blockbuster matchup.
“I’d like for it to be Conor because I heard he also wants to fight around the same time,” Masvidal said in an interview with MMA Junkie. “He’s never mentioned my name because he knows I’ll rip his head off. But if he and the UFC make that mistake, I’ll gladly take his head off in Miami. He knows I’ll break him, make him look bad. I won’t take him down, I’ll strike with him and take him out. There’s a reason he hasn’t called me out.”
Masvidal, who retired from MMA in 2023 but briefly returned to competition in 2024 for a boxing match against Nate Diaz—losing by majority decision—has been one of the UFC’s biggest stars in recent years. The prospect of facing McGregor excites him not just for the challenge, but for the massive pay-per-view potential the fight would generate.
“Conor knows I’m the second-biggest pay-per-view draw behind him,” Masvidal added. “He’s No. 1, and I’m right behind him. A fight between us would break all records. But let’s see if he really wants to do it. I’ll bust my ass to be in the best shape. That guy’s a clown. He likes to snort cocaine all day. I’m a true dog when it comes to training.”
Despite his preference for McGregor, Masvidal is also open to facing Edwards, with whom he shares a history of past-tension. “If McGregor doesn’t want it, then let’s settle things with Leon,” Masvidal stated. “He’s not booked, and I’m not either. Let’s sign the contract and I’ll break his face.”
Masvidal’s return is highly anticipated, and his words suggest that he’s ready to bring excitement back to the UFC. With a showdown against either McGregor or Edwards promising to be a major spectacle.
