Benji Radach, MMA Veteran and Real-Life Hero, Passes Away at 45

MMA veteran Benji Radach, known for his tenacity and resilience in the octagon, has passed away at age of 45.

Radach’s family members, including his stepmother and brother, first shared the news of his death on Facebook, and additional sources later confirmed it on Monday. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Radach’s career in mixed martial arts began in-2001, where he quickly made a name for himself as a formidable competitor. He launched his career with an impressive 10-0 record, which led to his signing with the UFC in 2002. During his tenure in the UFC, Radach fought three times, earning a 1-1 record with one no-contest. Radach’s debut in the UFC initially ended with a knockout victory, but the Louisiana Athletic Commission later overturned the result, determining that he had held onto the cage prior to the finish.

Radach secured his first-official UFC victory with a decision win over Nick Serra, younger brother of UFC legend Matt Serra. He faced tough competition, including a bout against Sean Sherk, before moving on from the promotion.

In 2007, Radach joined the International Fight League (IFL), where he fought six times in a single year, amassing an impressive 5-1 record. His victories included wins over notable fighters like Brian Foster, Gerald Harris, and Bristol Marunde.

Radach’s career also saw him compete in Elite XC, where he earned a knockout win over Murilo Rua, the older brother of UFC Hall of Famer Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. He later fought in Strikeforce, taking on opponents such as Ovince Saint Preux and Scott Smith. His final professional fight took place in 2015, where he faced Ben Reiter in Bellator, ending his career on a-loss.

Beyond the octagon, Radach was a hero in real life as well. In 2004, he made headlines when he thwarted a robbery at a restaurant where he was having breakfast with fellow UFC veteran Dennis Hallman. Radach courageously tackled the armed assailant, disarmed him. And delivered a punch that fractured the robber’s jaw, leaving him unconscious until the police arrived.

The MMA community and fans alike will remember Benji Radach’s legacy as a fierce competitor and a brave individual. His contributions to the sport and his fearless spirit both inside and outside the cage have left a lasting impact.
