Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier’s rivalry has been one of the most heated in UFC history, and Jon Jones recently decided to have a bit of fun at Cormier’s expense—though not to the extent many might have expected.
The two fighters have clashed both inside and outside the octagon, with their rivalry spanning two iconic bouts. In their first meeting at UFC 182 in January 2015, Jon Jones defeated Cormier by decision. Their rivalry reached a boiling point in their second fight at UFC 214, where Jon Jones knocked out Cormier with a head kick. However, the victory was overturned to a no contest after Jon Jones tested positive for a banned substance, leading to an emotional reaction from Cormier.
In a playful Instagram story posted Thursday, Jones showed a photo of Cormier crying in the octagon. He jokingly considered hanging the image in his home but quickly clarified it was all in good humor. “That is hilarious,” Jones laughed in the video. “All fun and games, guys. That’s not really going up there, but that would be funny.”
Jones, who recently defended his UFC heavyweight title with a dominant win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November, has maintained a lighthearted attitude about the rivalry. Meanwhile, Cormier is thriving as a top UFC color commentator and recently joined the UFC Hall of Fame.
While their competitive history is intense, Jones’ latest post shows that the two can share a lighter moment, even if the rivalry remains fierce.
