The Rock Injured Filming ‘The Smashing Machine’ Scene: ‘I Got Banged Up Pretty Good Today’

Dwayne Johnson, widely known as The Rock, recently sustained an injury while filming a scene for his upcoming movie, “The Smashing Machine.” The film, where Johnson stars as former two-time UFC heavyweight tournament champion Mark Kerr, has seen him intensely training on the mats for months to prepare for the role.

In a recent Instagram video, Johnson revealed significant swelling in his right elbow, describing the injury as part of the intense filming process. “Any time your film is called ‘The Smashing Machine,’ well, you’re going to get smashed up,” he remarked. The video showed what appeared to be a large lump on the bottom of his elbow, which Johnson speculated might involve soft tissue damage. He mentioned the need to reduce the swelling before considering an MRI, humorously noting, “The pain feels pretty good. But all good. It is what it is, until it isn’t.”

Johnson, 52, is no stranger to injuries, having dealt with numerous ailments throughout his football career and his lengthy stint in professional wrestling. Skepticism surrounded his recent return to the wrestling ring leading up to WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia, but Johnson managed to compete without incident. However, the injury bug found him on the set of his latest film.

Despite the injury, Johnson’s spirits remained high. He downplayed the severity of the setback, delivering the news with a jovial tone. To lighten the mood, he poured himself a glass of Teremana, the tequila brand he owns, quipping, “Cheers to f*cking melons at the bottom of your arm.”

“The Smashing Machine” continues to progress with Johnson at the helm, embodying the physical and mental challenges of an MMA fighter, a role that now comes with firsthand experience of the sport’s grueling nature.
