Netflix has announced that Neeraj Goyat will square off against Whindersson Nunes in a professional boxing match on the undercard of the highly anticipated Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul event scheduled for July 20 in Arlington, TX.
Initially, Goyat was in discussions for a potential bout with Jose Aldo, but Aldo opted to compete at UFC 301 in early May, defeating Jonathan Martinez in Rio de Janeiro. The matchup against Nunes will feature six rounds of three minutes each, contested at a catchweight of 165 pounds, with both fighters wearing 8-ounce gloves.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity, Nunes stated, “My main goal today is to show the world where I was born, and fighting on the same card as Mike Tyson will be great for it. Like everything I do — and I hope it’s the same in this match — I want to show my art. I’m ready, and I want to fight.”
Nunes, known primarily as a comedian and a superstar in Brazil, holds a professional boxing record of 0-1, having lost to fellow YouTuber My Mate Nate in October 2023. He has participated in exhibition matches, tallying a record of 2-1-1.
On the other hand, Goyat boasts a professional record of 18-4-2 with eight knockouts. He has been on an impressive streak, winning nine of his last ten bouts since 2018. The Indian fighter gained attention after challenging Jake Paul in Puerto Rico earlier this year.
Nunes revealed, “I had already started my preparation because we had a match planned for one of the Misfits Boxing cards in June. However, when we were offered to be part of this historic card, we realigned everything and decided to accept the challenge. It will be two months of hard work so I can be ready to show my art on July 20.”
In addition to the Goyat-Nunes bout, the boxing card will feature Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano for undisputed lightweight titles, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. against UFC veteran Darren Till, and Ashton Slyve vs. Floyd Schofield.
