In a proactive move by his management, Merab Dvalishvili’s designated role as the backup fighter for the bantamweight title bout at UFC 299 adds an extra layer of preparedness to the event.
Set to weigh in alongside the main event contenders on Friday, Merab Dvalishvili stands ready to step in if any unforeseen circumstances affect the participation of either Sean O’Malley or Marlon Vera in the championship clash.
Merab Dvalishvili, renowned as “The Machine,” arrives at UFC 299 on the back of an impressive 10 fight winning streak within the organization, with the majority of his victories achieved in the bantamweight division. His recent triumph over Henry Cejudo solidified his position as the leading contender in the weight class.
While Merab Dvalishvili’s immediate role is that of a standby fighter, UFC CEO Dana White has already confirmed his next shot at the bantamweight title. Even if he doesn’t step into the octagon at UFC 299, Merab Dvalishvili is ready to face the winner of the O’Malley-Vera showdown in the near future.
UFC 299 will take place on Saturday at the Kaseya Center in Miami, with the main card airing on pay-per-view via ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
