This summer, the UFC Hall of Fame will honor Wanderlei Silva, a renowned figure in MMA history known for his intensity and ferocity inside the cage, with induction.
Wanderlei Silva, a former PRIDE FC champion and a veteran of 12 UFC fights, will be inducted into the pioneer wing of the 2024 UFC Hall of Fame class. As announced during the UFC 298 broadcast.
In a statement, UFC CEO Dana White highlighted Silva’s significant contributions to the sport, describing him as a true pioneer of MMA. White emphasized Silva’s legacy of delivering unforgettable fights, including legendary bouts against formidable opponents such as Mirko Cro Crop, Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson, Brian Stann, and Rich Franklin.

Silva made his UFC debut at UFC 17.5 in October 1998, and although he initially faced setbacks, he soon became a dominant force in PRIDE FC, earning a reputation as “The Axe Murderer.” His tenure in PRIDE FC saw him achieve numerous highlight-reel knockouts against renowned fighters like Quinton Jackson, Kazushi Sakuraba, and Ricardo Arona.
Upon the UFC’s acquisition of PRIDE FC in 2007, Silva returned to the promotion and continued to showcase his skills against top-tier opponents such as Michael Bisping, Cung Le, and Rich Franklin.
At 47 years old, Silva joins former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar as the second fighter announced for the 2024 UFC Hall of Fame class. He will join other MMA luminaries who have played instrumental roles in shaping the sport’s history in the pioneer wing as they enshrine him.
