Jailton Almeida is still slated to compete at UFC 302, albeit against a different opponent than originally scheduled.
After Alexander Volkov withdrew from the event, Almeida (20-3 MMA, 6-1 UFC) is now expected to square off against Alexandr Romanov (17-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) instead.
The bout is anticipated to take place on June 1 at the Prudential Center. Moreover, verbal agreements have been reached, with formal bout contracts set to be finalized and signed in the upcoming days. Additionally, Ag. Fight was the first to break the news.
Volkov (37-10 MMA, 11-4 UFC) was removed from the lineup by the promotion and reassigned to a fight on June 22 in Saudi Arabia against Sergei Pavlovich (18-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC). However, the status of that bout remains uncertain.
Almeida, 32, is making a relatively swift return to action following his first loss under the UFC banner, a knockout setback against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 299 in Miami in March. This defeat ended a 15-fight winning streak, during which Almeida secured victories over notable opponents such as Derrick Lewis and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.
Meanwhile, Romanov, 33, aims to continue his momentum after securing a decision victory over Blagoy Ivanov in July. This win halted a two-fight losing streak, marking the first two losses of his professional career.
