Islam Makhachev, widely regarded as the world’s top pound-for-pound fighter, hasn’t stepped into the octagon since his impressive victory in his last outing. However, the reigning lightweight champion has now provided fans with an anticipated timeline for his next fight.
Following Charles Oliveira’s withdrawal from their scheduled rematch late last year, Alexander Volkanovski stepped in on just 11 days’ notice. Despite the short notice, Islam Makhachev delivered a stunning knockout victory over the challenger, solidifying his dominance in the division.
Since October, Makhachev has been absent from competition, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his return. While there is no official fight scheduled yet, Makhachev recently disclosed the timeframe for his anticipated comeback.
“I [will] have [my] next fight in June or July,” Makhachev revealed in a recent interview. “Although I’ve been training lightly with just one session a day, I’m consistently preparing because I am a champion.
