Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Mocks Teofimo Lopez’s Decline: “Looking Like a Light-Skin Squidward”

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has taunted Teofimo Lopez after the latter posted a skit depicting himself as a street beggar. The video, released on Friday, shows Lopez portraying a homeless person holding a begging cup on a sidewalk, asking for money. The lighthearted skit, however, is seen as an expression of frustration as Lopez seeks to exit his contract with Top Rank, believing he should be earning more.

Gervonta Davis took to social media, referencing an old post from Lopez in which he claimed he would become the highest-paid lightweight fighter. Despite the claim, Lopez has yet to achieve such status. After moving up to the 140-pound weight class, he has not made the type of money that fighters like Davis and Ryan Garcia have enjoyed.

Davis commented:

“I have a video on my phone of him saying he was going to be the most paid 135 lbs. He is just talking out his a**. Crazy how things play out, and his a** is starting to look like a light skin Squidward.”

Lopez, once seen as a rising star after defeating Vasiliy Lomachenko, has seen his career take a downturn. Following his loss to George Kambosos Jr., Lopez’s performance has been inconsistent, and critics have questioned his mental toughness. He’s since struggled in bouts with Jamaine Ortiz, Sandor Martin, and Steve Claggett—fights that many fans believed Lopez should have lost.

His move to 140 pounds has not brought the success or financial rewards he expected, and his desire to leave Top Rank stems from his hope of joining other promoters who are securing more lucrative deals. However, Davis and others suggest that changing promoters may not resolve Lopez’s core issues—namely his lack of talent and inability to handle pressure in high-stakes situations.

While Lopez continues to search for financial success, rivals like Ryan Garcia, with a net worth of $50 million, and Tank Davis, who has also earned substantial sums, appear to be far ahead. Lopez’s inconsistency and decline since 2021 have only made it more unlikely that he will ever reach the financial heights of his competitors.

Davis’ sharp commentary on Lopez’s situation reflects the growing divide between the two fighters, with Lopez’s recent struggles leading to mockery from the boxing world’s elite.
