Katie Taylor successfully defended her world titles with a hard-fought victory over Amanda Serrano, but the Irish boxer was met with boos and jeers from the crowd after the fight. The highly anticipated rematch, which took place on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s bout with Jake Paul, lived up to its billing, with both fighters showing immense heart in a brutal contest. However, the controversial result left some fans dissatisfied.
The fight, which followed an epic first encounter two years ago in New York, saw Serrano push Taylor to the limit. Despite sustaining a severe cut above her right eye in the sixth round, Serrano fought on valiantly. Taylor, who received a point deduction in the eighth round for leading with her head, ultimately won by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout 95-94 in her favor, securing her status as the undisputed super-lightweight champion.
In the ring after the fight, Taylor expressed her satisfaction with her performance, despite the vocal criticism from the crowd. “It’s obviously hard to score the fight, but I knew it was an absolute slugfest, an absolute war,” Taylor said, as she was drowned out by boos. “Thank God I won this fight, congratulations to Amanda. She’s a fantastic fighter. I think we agreed to 12 three-minute rounds in our next fight; the trilogy is on.”
Taylor also defended herself against claims of foul play, particularly the point deduction for headbutting. “I didn’t agree with the point deduction. I certainly wasn’t fighting dirty,” she stated. “Sometimes it gets dirty in there, and you have to prepare for those moments. This is an amazing moment for women’s boxing. We put on a show for everybody.”

Serrano, whose resilience was on full display despite her injury, expressed frustration with the decision. She accused Taylor of using her head intentionally, a tactic she claimed was evident in their first fight as well. “I knew when it went to the judges it was going to be a little shady,” said Serrano. “She kept head-butting me, but we knew that from the very beginning, the first fight. I’ve seen other fights where she uses her head, dirty.”
Despite the post-fight animosity, Serrano made it clear that she respected the challenge Taylor posed. “Listen, I’m a featherweight. I went up three divisions, I dared to be great tonight. I only fight the best,” she added.
While the controversial decision sparked mixed reactions, Taylor’s victory—her third over Serrano—cements her place among the best in women’s boxing. With the unanimous decision firmly in her favor, Taylor is looking ahead to a potential third fight with Serrano, keeping the rivalry alive.
The crowd may have disagreed with the outcome, but as Taylor reminded everyone, the only opinions that truly matter are those of the judges. And on this night, they ruled in her favor.
