Williams Formula 1 junior driver Zak O’Sullivan has been confirmed as a full-time driver for Kondo Racing in the 2025 Super Formula season, taking the wheel of the team’s #4 car. This announcement comes as part of Toyota’s 13-strong roster for the upcoming campaign, showcasing a blend of established talent and rising stars.
O’Sullivan, who recently impressed during the Suzuka post-season test, will partner veteran Kenta Yamashita at Kondo Racing. The British driver, a former Formula 2 competitor, replaces Kazuto Kotaka, who transitions to the newly-formed TGMGP TGR-DC team.
The 18-year-old’s participation in the Suzuka test alongside fellow international drivers James Hedley and Juan Manuel Correa marked a significant step in his career. O’Sullivan’s performance secured him the coveted seat, edging out contenders like Ukyo Sasahara, who also tested with Kondo Racing but missed out on a full-time spot.
The reshuffled Toyota lineup for 2025 features several notable moves:
- Kazuto Kotaka, previously with Kondo, joins TGMGP TGR-DC, partnering Toyota junior Hibiki Taira.
- Sacha Fenestraz, returning to TOM’S, will team up with Sho Tsuboi while simultaneously competing in SUPER GT for Team SARD.
- Oliver Rasmussen, a former Jota World Endurance Championship driver, earns a seat at Team Impul alongside Mitsunori Takaboshi, who steps up from Toyota’s development program.
Meanwhile, KCMG, Inging, and Rookie Racing maintain their 2024 driver lineups, highlighting Toyota’s commitment to continuity within its core teams.
The addition of O’Sullivan to the Super Formula grid reflects Toyota’s push to bring fresh international talent into Japan’s premier single-seater series. As he embarks on his new journey, O’Sullivan’s move represents a pivotal step for the British racer in his pursuit of a future Formula 1 seat.
The 2025 Super Formula season promises to be one of intense competition, with a dynamic mix of seasoned drivers and emerging stars like O’Sullivan set to battle on Japan’s iconic circuits.
