Yuki Tsunoda is in contention for a promotion to the Red Bull Formula 1 team, provided he maintains his strong performances, according to RB CEO Peter Bayer.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Tsunoda would remain with the team for 2025. Despite this, Red Bull has recently overlooked him for a spot, with Sergio Perez’s seat coming under scrutiny due to inconsistent results.
The Red Bull organization plans to retain both Perez and Daniel Ricciardo for the foreseeable future, shifting the focus to next year’s line-ups, especially if Perez cannot address his performance issues.
Bayer stated that if Tsunoda continues to perform at a high level, Red Bull Racing will consider him for a seat. “Helmut Marko, our motorsport advisor, mentioned that a single good result doesn’t define a season,” Bayer told Motorsport.com. “If Yuki keeps up this level of racing, he will be considered for a seat in Red Bull Racing.”
Bayer noted that Tsunoda might need another season alongside a strong driver like Daniel Ricciardo before moving up. “We are not rushing, as we have all options available to us,” he added.

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies praised Tsunoda’s progress in his fourth F1 season, describing it as “phenomenal.” Mekies highlighted Tsunoda’s improvement in speed, composure, and team integration. “He has been exceptional in getting up to speed right from the start of a session,” Mekies said.
Mekies also emphasized that Tsunoda’s ambition to drive for Red Bull Racing aligns with the team’s goals. “Yuki must have the ambition to drive for Red Bull Racing and win races,” Mekies stated. “His ambition and performance are a good fit for our team, and we continue to support his development.”
Overall, Tsunoda’s consistent performance and ambition are key factors that could influence his future with Red Bull Racing.
