Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has rekindled his partnership with long-time trainer Angela Cullen as he embarks on a new chapter in his illustrious career at Ferrari. The New Zealander, who played a pivotal role in six of Hamilton’s championship triumphs during their time together at Mercedes, will join his backroom team under the umbrella of his Project 44 company.
Cullen, a renowned physio and performance expert, parted ways with Hamilton after the 2023 season opener but maintained a close personal relationship with the driver. Despite their professional split, the duo frequently stayed in touch. Speaking about Cullen at the time, Hamilton had said, “We message pretty much every day. We’ve been through thick and thin. I am incredibly grateful for her and love her dearly.”
Cullen has since worked with IndyCar driver Marcus Armstrong but sparked speculation about reuniting with Hamilton earlier this month when she posted Instagram photos in Ferrari red with Hamilton’s iconic race number, 44, prominently featured in the background.
Autosport has confirmed that Cullen has officially joined Hamilton’s Project 44 team, contributing as part of the performance division led by race director Marc Hynes. Project 44, which has expanded its talent pool since the start of 2024, is managing various aspects of Hamilton’s career as he transitions to Ferrari.
Settling into Ferrari

Hamilton, now 40, took his first laps in a Ferrari-powered car at the team’s iconic Fiorano test track. He also spent time in the simulator to familiarize himself with the unique characteristics of Ferrari’s power unit and operational processes.
As part of his integration, Hamilton met team principal Fred Vasseur, CEO Benedetto Vigna, and Piero Ferrari, the son of founder Enzo Ferrari. He also visited Enzo Ferrari’s historic office and engaged with his new teammates, building camaraderie ahead of the upcoming season.
The return of Cullen to Hamilton’s team underscores his commitment to maximizing performance in what many consider a bold move to Ferrari after years of dominance with Mercedes. With a familiar and trusted ally back by his side, Hamilton appears poised to write a new chapter in his storied Formula 1 career.
