Franco Colapinto’s time with Williams has come to a close, with the Argentine driver making the move to Alpine for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Colapinto, who earned his big break in F1 with Williams last year, will join the Alpine team as a test and reserve driver.
James Vowles, the team principal of Williams, shared the news of Colapinto’s departure, wishing him the best as he transitions to Alpine. The young driver will now work alongside the French team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
While Colapinto’s role at Alpine is currently focused on testing and reserve duties, many in the paddock speculate that the 2025 move is a stepping stone for a future race seat. Alpine’s executive advisor, Flavio Briatore, is believed to be instrumental in Colapinto’s career progression, with some suggesting that the driver could be lined up for a full-time seat with the team in the near future.
Commenting on the move, Vowles said,
“We are proud of Franco’s development with us over the past year, and while we’ll miss having him as part of the team, we fully support his move to Alpine. He has shown great potential, and we believe he is ready to take the next step in his career.”
To mark Colapinto’s departure, Williams has shared a picture of the driver with Vowles, sparking a Caption Competition for fans to share their most creative and humorous suggestions. The best captions will be featured in a future edition of the RaceFans Round-up, offering a lighthearted tribute to the driver’s time at Williams.
