Alpine has confirmed that 20-year-old Estonian driver Paul Aron will join the team as their official reserve driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The announcement comes with just one race remaining in the 2024 season.
Currently competing in his first Formula 2 campaign with Hitech Pulse-Eight, Aron has already proven his talent in the motorsport world. In 2023, he finished third in the FIA Formula 3 Championship while driving for Prema Racing. Prior to that, he secured third place in the Formula Regional European Championship in both 2021 and 2022, also with Prema. Aron began his career with a strong performance in the 2019 Italian F4 Championship, where he won the Rookie Cup and finished third overall. He is also a former member of the Mercedes Junior Team.
Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s Executive Advisor, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, saying: “We are very pleased to have Paul join BWT Alpine Formula One Team as our 2025 Reserve Driver. There is a generational shift in Formula 1 right now, with many young talents making their mark, and we believe Paul is among the best. We look forward to helping him develop into an F1 driver.”
Aron himself shared his excitement about the opportunity, stating: “It’s incredibly special to be joining BWT Alpine Formula One Team. It’s clear that this is a great environment for any young driver, and I’m really grateful to Flavio and Oliver [Oakes] for giving me this opportunity. Before I focus on my role as the team’s Reserve Driver in 2025, I have a championship to contend with this year, and I will be giving it my all to compete for the title. I’m excited to begin the journey and continue my motorsport career.”
Aron’s appointment adds another promising talent to the F1 scene, with Alpine eager to develop him for a future in the sport.
