Sergio Perez has acknowledged that his future with Red Bull is uncertain following another disappointing race weekend. The Mexican driver, who has struggled with pace throughout the season, now questions his position at the Milton Keynes-based team.

Sergio Perez joined Red Bull in 2021, playing a crucial role in helping Max Verstappen secure his first world championship by assisting in the title deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Despite his contributions, Sergio Perez has struggled to maintain consistent performance, particularly in qualifying sessions, where he has often lagged behind his teammate.

The Guadalajara-born driver has secured five race wins with Red Bull and finished second in the Drivers’ Championship last year. However, his recent form has raised doubts. After a promising start to the season, Red Bull extended his contract until 2026, but Sergio Perez’s performances have faltered since the extension.

In the most recent race, Sergio Perez qualified in 10th place, but a collision with Valtteri Bottas dashed his hopes, leaving him spinning and eventually forcing him to retire from the race. Reflecting on the incident, Sergio Perez shared his frustration:

“It hasn’t been a great year, and we wanted a better result today. In the end, it probably summed up the season. I was hit from behind by Valtteri. I think he braked too late, but I also felt that the car was already damaged before that. The gearbox started acting up, so there might have been an engine issue prior to the collision.”

Although Sergio Perez had previously been confident about fulfilling his contract extension with Red Bull, the uncertainty surrounding his performance has left him questioning his future.

“I’m relieved this season is over, it has been very frustrating. I’m just happy it’s over, and I can look forward now. We’ll see what happens in the coming days; I don’t know what will happen at the moment. I have a contract, and the team and I have been talking about what’s best for everyone moving forward.”

As Sergio Perez awaits discussions with Red Bull regarding his future, the next few days will be critical in determining whether he will remain with the team for the remainder of his contract or if changes will be made ahead of next season.
