McLaren has made a significant move by announcing the hiring of Will Courtenay, a long-standing veteran from Red Bull Racing, as their new Sporting Director. The news comes on the heels of the team’s successful performance in the Singapore Grand Prix. Where they secured their fifth win of the season.
Courtenay brings with him two decades of experience from Red-Bull-Racing, where he held the position of Head of Race Strategy. His vast expertise in race-strategy and team dynamics will be invaluable as McLaren continues its ambitious path toward championship contention. Courtenay’s departure marks the third key exit from Red Bull this season, underscoring the significance of McLaren’s recruitment.
In his new role, Courtenay will report to Randeep Singh, McLaren’s current Racing Director. McLaren has expressed confidence that Courtenay’s skills and knowledge will further elevate the team’s competitiveness on the Formula 1 grid.
“We are thrilled to welcome Will to McLaren,” said team principal Andrea Stella. “His extensive experience, professionalism, and passion for motorsport make him the perfect fit to lead our sporting operations. We are at a pivotal point in our journey, and Will’s addition to our leadership team will help us continue to push for victories and championships.”
