Sainz Credits Norris’s First F1 Win to Deserved Luck at Miami GP

McLaren’s Lando Norris secured his long-awaited first Formula 1 victory at the Miami Grand Prix, benefitting from favorable circumstances during the race. Despite missing out on a potential win himself, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz acknowledged Norris’s deserving triumph and emphasized the role of luck in racing.

Norris clinched his maiden F1 win after 110 race starts and 16 podium finishes. His victory came following a safety car period triggered by a collision between Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant. While leading rivals made pit stops before the safety car intervention, Norris, who was fourth at the time, capitalized on the situation by pitting and rejoining the race in first place.

Sainz, among the drivers who didn’t benefit from the safety car, admitted he could have won the race had he pitted later. However, he emphasized that Norris’s victory was well-deserved, highlighting Norris’s consistent performance and competitiveness throughout the season.

“Luck comes to those who deserve it,” stated Sainz, acknowledging Norris’s talent and determination. “Lando is one of those guys who deserved a bit of luck this weekend to win his first race. We all know Lando has been driving to win races.”

Sainz

Sainz, Norris’s former teammate at McLaren, praised Norris’s driving prowess, noting his consistent performance and two podium finishes earlier in the season. Despite the fortunate circumstances that led to Norris’s win, Sainz emphasized Norris’s skill and race-winning potential.

Norris, recognizing the importance of the free pit stop in his victory, admitted that winning without it would have been challenging. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen chimed in, highlighting the unpredictable nature of racing and acknowledging that luck can play a significant role in outcomes.

Ultimately, Norris’s triumph in Miami was a culmination of his skill, determination, and a bit of timely luck, marking a significant milestone in his F1 career.
