Adrian Newey, renowned Formula 1 engineer, has hinted at a potential departure from the Red Bull Racing team, stirring speculation among rival teams eager to secure his expertise.
Reports suggest that Newey, currently serving as Red Bull’s chief technical officer, has privately expressed his desire to leave the Milton Keynes-based squad. Despite Red Bull’s dominance in F1, internal power struggles and uncertainties surrounding team boss Christian Horner’s future have reportedly led Newey to reconsider his position.
However, the situation remains nuanced, with no formal communication or official resignation from Newey to senior management or Red Bull’s parent company. While the possibility of his departure has fueled interest from rival teams like Ferrari and Aston Martin, contractual obligations complicate any potential move.

Red Bull’s statement confirms Newey’s contract until the end of 2025, with additional non-compete clauses possibly extending his availability until 2027. Such delays could limit his impact on a new team’s projects, given the lead time required for F1 development cycles.
Amidst these considerations, Newey may also be contemplating a departure from F1 altogether, exploring alternative projects like Red Bull’s RB17 hypercar. However, continuing involvement in such ventures would likely necessitate his ongoing collaboration with Red Bull Racing.
While a potential move to a rival team remains uncertain, any agreement to buy out Newey’s contract would likely incur significant costs, deterring Red Bull from facilitating an easy departure. As discussions unfold, the future of one of F1’s most celebrated engineers remains a subject of keen interest and speculation.
