Oliver Bearman, the 18-year-old British racer, made headlines as the youngest Briton to start a Formula 1 Grand Prix when he stepped in for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari due to appendicitis. In his debut, Bearman impressively finished ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
Expressing his aspirations, Bearman stated, “Getting a taste of this amazing world… I know what I’m missing out on up there in F1.” His Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc, and former champion Damon Hill have both endorsed his talent, with Hill noting, “A star is born now!”
When questioned about a potential regular spot on the grid by 2025, Bearman expressed confidence, saying, “I think so. It depends on how I get on.” He emphasized his focus on excelling in F2 to secure an F1 seat, asserting, “That’s my main goal for this year.”
Having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021, Bearman faces stiff competition with Lewis Hamilton set to join Ferrari next season. Nevertheless, after a “whirlwind” weekend in Jeddah, Bearman is eager to pursue a permanent role with Ferrari.
Reflecting on his journey, Bearman highlighted his growth and connections within the Ferrari factory, expressing gratitude for the support. He affirmed his determination, stating, “It just makes you want to keep pushing, and it would be amazing to race here full-time one day.”
With his eyes firmly set on a future in Formula 1, Bearman continues to strive towards his dream of securing a permanent seat on the grid.
