Monza and Hungaroring to Undergo Extensive Reconstruction Ahead of 2024 Formula 1 (F1) Season

Iconic circuits set for comprehensive makeovers in preparation for upcoming Grand Prix events (Monza and Hungaroring)

In preparation for the 2024 Formula 1 (F 1) season, Monza and the Hungaroring are under going significant reconstruction, slated for completion before the respective Italian and Hungarian Grands Prix.

The renowned Autodromo Nazionale Monza, with its contract extended until 2025, faces uncertainties about future races due to facility limitations. To address this, Monza has initiated a €21 million reconstruction plan aimed at up grading various facilities. President Angelo Sticchi Damiani out lined the goals, emphasizing improvements in under passes, grandstands, and roofing over the pit building. These upgrades aim to enhance fan experience and modernize facilities to align with contemporary spectator expectations.

Similarly, the Hungaroring, host to Formula 1 (F 1) since 1986, extended its deal until 2032 but faced the need for significant upgrades. The circuit, located outside Budapest, is undergoing construction to revamp outdated buildings and grandstands. The first phase includes a new entrance and utility renovations, followed by refurbishing the main areas. New tunnels for drivers, staff, and guests are also part of the renovation plans.


Formula One’s President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali, praised the Hungarian promoter’s facility improvements, seeking ongoing enhancements at Formula 1 events.

Ádám Schmidt, the State Secretary for Sport, outlined the reconstruction schedule, targeting the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix as the debut for the renovated Hungaroring. Zsolt Gyulay, Chairman and CEO of Hungaroring Sport Zrt., high lighted the urgency to modernize utilities and infrastructure to align with the standards set by the International Automobile Federation.

The comprehensive reconstruction efforts at both Monza and the Hungaroring aim to elevate facilities, enhance fan experience, and ensure the long-term viability of these iconic circuits on the F1 calendar.
