As the Formula 1 driver market buzzes with anticipation, Fernando Alonso finds himself in a pivotal position. The veteran driver, currently with Aston Martin, sees his contract expiring at the end of the season, igniting rumors and speculation about his future in the sport.
Despite ample opportunities to publicly commit to Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso has instead focused on other aspects, such as his exceptional pre-season fitness results and his marketing value. Notably, he’s emphasized that among the grid’s champions, he’s the only one available for the 2025 season.
While speculation suggests Alonso as a potential candidate to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes when the latter moves to Ferrari, Mercedes protege Andrea Kimi Antonelli is also drawing attention.

Addressing the ongoing chatter during the final day of pre-season testing in Bahrain, Alonso acknowledged being in a favorable negotiating position. However, he expressed his intention to concentrate on the initial races of the season before making any decisions about his future beyond 2023.
Alonso emphasized the significance of experiencing the new season, especially with Formula 1’s longest-ever calendar of 24 races. His focus is on optimizing travel schedules and maintaining high energy levels throughout the demanding season.
Reflecting on the early activation of the driver market ‘silly season,’ Alonso admitted surprise at its rapid onset. He had anticipated a slower buildup, particularly expecting action around summertime. However, leaks and other factors prompted earlier-than-expected announcements from teams like Mercedes and Ferrari, sparking increased activity in the market.
As Alonso navigates the evolving landscape of the F1 driver market, his deliberate approach suggests a strategic mindset aimed at securing the best possible outcome for his future endeavors in the sport.
