Franco Morbidelli’s transition from the Pramac team to the VR46 Ducati team for the 2025 MotoGP season was officially confirmed on Friday morning during the Austrian Grand Prix. Later in the day, VR46 also revealed who will be leading Morbidelli’s crew.
Morbidelli’s move to VR46 follows a challenging season with Pramac Ducati, marred by an early crash that sidelined him for both preseason tests. As a result, he missed valuable track time, impacting his preparation.
VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto addressed these challenges, noting, “If we look back, this winter was particularly difficult for him. The injuries sustained in Portimao and missing the winter tests meant he missed around 3,000 km. In MotoGP, missing the winter tests makes a significant difference.”
In 2025, Morbidelli will continue using the Desmosedici GP24, the same model he currently rides. Nieto believes that sticking with the familiar bike will be advantageous for Morbidelli. “Continuity with the same bike is very important,” Nieto stated. “We believe this will help us achieve great results.”
Nieto also expressed confidence in Morbidelli’s recent performances, which have shown promise. “He’s starting to feel very comfortable with the bike,” Nieto observed. “He was consistently fighting for the top three positions, which is a positive sign.”
Furthermore, Nieto confirmed that Morbidelli will inherit the existing crew working with Marco Bezzecchi, including crew chief Matteo Flamigni. “Morbidelli will join us with Matteo Flamigni and the crew currently working with Bezzecchi,” Nieto added.
