Carlos Sainz Stands Firm Amid F1 Teams’ Pressure for Future Decision

Carlos Sainz remains resolute in his approach to deciding his Formula 1 future, despite pressure from interested teams eager for his signature.

The Spanish driver has received offers from Sauber, Williams, and Alpine as he contemplates his next career move after four seasons with Ferrari. Initial preferences for Red Bull and Mercedes have not materialized, leaving Sainz with the task of choosing the team he believes offers the best competitive prospects going forward.

However, Sainz’s deliberation is causing a bottleneck in the driver market, with teams awaiting his decision before finalizing their plans.

Motorsport.com has reported that Williams, despite keeping Sainz as their top choice, is starting to explore other options due to the delay.

Following his podium finish at the Austrian Grand Prix, Sainz emphasized the importance of savoring the moment before diving into contract talks.

“I want to enjoy this podium moment. While some teams may be anxious or pushing me, it’s also crucial for me to take the necessary time to make this important decision,” Sainz stated.

“It’s my future, my choice, and I’ll be transparent with everyone. I’ll take the time I need, and if some teams are impatient, there’s nothing I can do about that.”

Sainz declined to specify the teams he’s negotiating with, noting that timelines are fluid.

“I won’t give a timeframe because it’s subject to change,” he said ahead of the Red Bull Ring weekend.

Alpine has emerged as an attractive option for Sainz, despite his earlier stance on not considering current form. The team’s recent performance improvements are likely influencing his decision.

While Alpine’s team principal Bruno Famin has expressed confidence in the Renault 2026 powertrain project, advisor Flavio Briatore is advocating for a switch to Mercedes customer status, hoping to sway Sainz towards the French outfit.
