The fast-paced world of the F1 driver market sees Haas emerge as a more appealing option following its recent string of point-scoring performances in the 2024 season. With at least one driver seat available for next year after Nico Hulkenberg’s move to Sauber/Audi and uncertainty surrounding ‘s future, Haas is actively considering its options.
Esteban Ocon from Alpine is reportedly at the top of Haas’s shortlist, while Pierre Gasly, Ocon’s teammate, is also a coveted choice for several teams. This dynamic keeps Alpine vigilant regarding its driver lineup, particularly amid a challenging start to the 2024 season.
Meanwhile, former Haas driver Mick Schumacher, currently competing in the Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine, is also being considered as an option. Despite not securing top-10 finishes in his recent WEC races, Schumacher’s performance has left Alpine team principal Famin “really impressed.”
Famin highlighted Schumacher’s remarkable mindset and adaptability to endurance racing, emphasizing his openness, cooperation, and eagerness to learn from his teammates. While Schumacher is one of “many” possibilities for Alpine’s 2025 lineup, Famin clarified that the team is open to drivers of all backgrounds, dismissing any priority based on nationality.
Moreover, Famin revealed that several drivers, including veteran Valtteri Bottas, have expressed interest in Alpine for the future. However, the team intends to take its time before finalizing any decisions, ensuring thorough evaluation and consideration of all available options.
