Trent Alexander-Arnold Recounts Liverpool’s Shock at Jurgen Klopp’s Departure Announcement

Trent Alexander-Arnold has shared insights into the Liverpool team’s reaction to Jurgen Klopp’s unexpected announcement of his departure, revealing that the squad was left bewildered, questioning if it was a prank.

The Liverpool right-back disclosed further details surrounding Klopp’s bombshell revelation. Explaining how the manager called an unusual morning meeting and informed the players about his decision.

“It started like a normal day. Then the manager called a meeting at 10:30 am, which we had never had before, so everyone was like. ‘What’s going on?'” Alexander-Arnold recounted, as reported by The Athletic. “He came into the changing rooms and told us there was news breaking as he was speaking. So we found out as players at the same time as everyone else but he told us personally.”

Describing the moment of the announcement, Alexander-Arnold shared, “He said that this had to be his last season. That he needed a break to spend time with his family. I didn’t know what to do. You think, ‘Is this a joke?’ None of us were expecting it.”

“After he left the room, everyone was just sat there thinking, ‘Has that just happened?’ Then you have to get on with it, going out to train in an hour, doing your job,” he added.

Alexander-Arnold’s comments were made during an interview at Anfield with Jamie Carragher, ahead of Liverpool’s match against Brighton on Sunday.

Regarding Brighton’s manager, Roberto De Zerbi, who had been linked with replacing Klopp. Alexander-Arnold praised the Italian’s approach, emphasizing Brighton’s tactical prowess and confidence on the field.

“I think they buy into the game plan, I think they know what they’re doing, they’re well drilled in what they do, they believe in it and they go and execute it,” he remarked.

Despite earlier reports linking De Zerbi with Liverpool, Sky Sports now indicates that he is no longer a contender for the position, with Liverpool exploring other potential candidates to lead the club forward.
