Son Heung-min has addressed the speculation surrounding his potential departure from Tottenham Hotspur. Admitting that the rumors have made him feel “uncomfortable.”
The 31-year-old South Korean forward is entering the final year of his four-year contract with Spurs, which includes an option for a one-year extension. Despite leading the team with 17 goals in 35 matches last season. Rumors have linked him to a surprising reunion with former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho, now at Fenerbahce.
The Turkish club, under Mourinho’s leadership, is reportedly planning a major summer spending spree, fueling speculation about Son’s future. Tottenham, on the other hand, is set for a significant rebuild under new head coach Ange Postecoglou following a challenging season.
In response to these rumors, Son seemed to dismiss the possibility of leaving this summer. After helping South Korea secure a 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over China in Seoul, he stated, “I have not had any exchanges with the club. I don’t have anything to say at this point. I feel a little uncomfortable with the situation, I am going to keep doing my best for Tottenham, I still have terms left on my contract. Money is not important to me. The most important thing is to play in a league that I enjoy playing in. I have so much more I want to accomplish in the Premier League.”

Despite Tottenham narrowly missing out on Champions League football next season by two points, Son achieved a personal milestone. Moving up to fifth on Spurs’ all-time scorers list with 162-goals in 408 appearances since joining the club in 2015. Last season, he enjoyed his joint-second highest league goal tally with 17 goals, just behind his 2021-22 season record of 23 league goals. However, the season was not without its challenges, as injuries to key players affected the squad’s overall performance.
Son’s comments suggest his focus remains on Tottenham and achieving more in the Premier League. Despite the ongoing speculation about his future.
