Arne Slot’s Dream Liverpool XI: How Reds Could Line Up With Three Key January Transfers

Liverpool are enjoying an exceptional start to the 2024-25 season, sitting six points clear at the top of the Premier League table under manager Arne Slot. With a promising title challenge underway, the Dutch coach could be set to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, potentially adding three key players to propel the Reds to greater success in both domestic and European competitions.

While Arne Slot’s side has performed admirably, some smart acquisitions could further enhance their chances of clinching the Premier League title in his debut season at Anfield. Despite strong performances, Liverpool’s board will face critical decisions in the coming months, especially regarding the contracts of key players Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are out of contract in the summer.

Real Madrid have shown interest in Alexander-Arnold, with a £20 million bid already rejected, while discussions about new contracts for Salah and Van Dijk are ongoing. However, uncertainty remains surrounding the England international, Alexander-Arnold.

Slot's
Looking ahead to potential additions in January, here’s how Liverpool’s squad could shape up with some high-profile signings:

Goalkeeper:

Alisson Becker remains firmly entrenched as Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper, with no immediate changes expected. However, Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to join the club in the summer.

Defense:

In defense, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold seem certain to remain at Anfield, especially given the uncertainty surrounding their contracts. Despite this, a new center-back could be valuable, considering Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté’s ongoing injury concerns. Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie, a long-time target, could be a strong addition, offering both central and full-back options. Andrew Robertson would complete a formidable defensive lineup.

Midfield:

While Ryan Gravenberch has been a standout performer for Liverpool this season, there could still be room for another midfielder. One name to watch is Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, who rejected a summer move to Anfield but has once again been linked with the Premier League, with Arsenal also expressing interest. Although midfield reinforcements may not be immediately necessary, Zubimendi would add additional depth and quality, complementing the talents of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones.

Attack:

Up front, Dutch forward Cody Gakpo has found his rhythm and appears to have secured the left-wing role, with Luis Diaz as his competition. Mohamed Salah, of course, remains a guaranteed starter on the right, following another stellar season. However, Slot could look to add another attacking option in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, who has been in sensational form, scoring 18 goals this season. Marmoush’s arrival could ease Darwin Nunez’s potential departure, either on loan or permanently, while maintaining Diogo Jota’s place in the squad.

Potential Dream XI (Post-January Transfers):

  • Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker
  • Defense: Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Hincapie, Robertson
  • Midfield: Gravenberch, Zubimendi, Mac Allister
  • Attack: Salah, Marmoush, Gakpo

With these potential signings, Slot’s Liverpool would boast a balanced and highly competitive squad, further strengthening their title challenge and giving them a real shot at European glory.
