Five Scotland fans en route to Euro 2024 suffered injuries in a car accident near Weeze airport. Approximately 45 miles from Dusseldorf, reportedly due to confusion over driving rules in Germany.
The incident occurred when the supporters, having landed on a late-night flight from Edinburgh, rented a car at Weeze Airport. In the darkness, they inadvertently drove on the wrong side of the road, resulting in a head-on collision with a black Mercedes. Emergency responders, including four ambulances, promptly arrived at the scene on Thursday night.
According to an unnamed source quoted by the Daily Record, “They landed in Weeze with Ryanair from Edinburgh at 11 pm. They picked up their rental car directly at Weeze Airport, packed numerous suitcases and drove off. But forgot that in Germany you drive on the right.”

The crash left all five football fans injured, with some sustaining serious injuries. Emergency medical teams provided initial treatment before transporting them to various hospitals. Both vehicles involved were extensively damaged.
A spokesperson from the local fire department stated, “Shortly after midnight, a serious traffic accident occurred on the airport ring in which two vehicles collided head-on. A total of six injured people, two of them seriously, were treated by the emergency services.”
