Sporting Lisbon’s highly sought-after manager, Ruben Amorim, has chosen to remain tight-lipped about his recent trip to London. Where he reportedly held talks with West Ham officials.
The 39-year-old Portuguese tactician, who has been linked with both West Ham and Liverpool, jetted off to the English capital on Monday. While it’s understood that discussions revolved around the possibility of him replacing the outgoing David Moyes at West Ham, speculation about a potential move to Liverpool has also been rife. This followed Xabi Alonso’s confirmation that he wouldn’t be joining Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen.
Sporting Lisbon’s recent 3-0 victory over Vitoria puts them on the brink of clinching. The Portuguese title for the second time during Amorim’s four-year tenure. Despite his team’s success, Amorim’s future remains uncertain, with his contract including a £12.8 million buyout clause.
After spending six hours in London, Ruben Amorim returned to Lisbon early Tuesday morning and was met by a throng of reporters. Though he smiled as he walked past them towards a waiting vehicle, he offered little insight. Only saying, “See you Saturday,” referring to his upcoming press conference ahead of Sporting’s match against Porto.

In contrast to his reticence upon his return, Amorim was more forthcoming after Sunday’s game. Where Sporting fans displayed a banner expressing their support for him. However, he remained non-committal about his future, stating, “Nothing has changed. I’ll be here next week.”
West Ham’s interest in Amorim comes amid a lackluster run of form, with the club winning just one of their last eight games under Moyes. Liverpool, on the other hand, continues to evaluate potential candidates, with Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi emerging as a frontrunner. Reds legend Jamie Carragher hinted at the significance of Richard Hughes’ appointment as the club’s new sporting director, suggesting a possible link to De Zerbi’s candidacy.
As the speculation surrounding Amorim’s future intensifies, Sporting Lisbon remains focused on securing the league title. With challenging fixtures ahead, including a crucial encounter against Porto.
