Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, aged 20, found himself at the center of controversy during a recent match against Valencia at the Mestalla.
In the dying moments of the game, Bellingham appeared to score what could have been the winning goal, only for the referee, Gil Manzano, to have already blown the full-time whistle as the cross was delivered.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has handed Bellingham a two-match suspension as a result of the incident. The disciplinary action stems from Bellingham’s perceived “contempt or disregard” towards the referee, particularly when Real players and staff surrounded him following the disallowed goal.
Despite the suspension, Bellingham will still be eligible to participate in Real Madrid’s upcoming Champions League last-16 tie against RB Leipzig. However, he will miss the subsequent league fixtures against Celta Vigo and Osasuna.

Real Madrid appealed against Bellingham’s red card, arguing that the referee had made an error. However, the RFEF disciplinary committee dismissed their appeal.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed frustration over Bellingham’s red card, emphasizing that it was borne out of frustration rather than any deliberate misconduct.
Real Madrid will feel Bellingham’s absence, given his status as the team’s leading scorer this season with 16 league goals. However, experts anticipate his return to action following the international break, ready to contribute to Real’s continued success in La Liga.
While sidelined by suspension for domestic fixtures, Bellingham remains available for international duty with England, scheduled to play friendlies against Brazil and Belgium later in March.
Despite the setback, Real Madrid maintains their position at the top of La Liga, holding a comfortable seven-point lead. They also hold a 1-0 advantage over Leipzig as they head into the second leg of the Champions League tie at the Bernabeu.
