Mohamed Salah has expressed disappointment over Liverpool’s failure to offer him a new contract as his current deal nears its expiration, casting uncertainty over his future at the club. The prolific forward, who has been a key figure for Liverpool since his arrival in 2017, is under contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Despite his ongoing importance on the pitch, Salah revealed his frustration after Liverpool’s 3-2 victory at Southampton on Sunday, in which he scored twice to help extend their Premier League lead to eight points. However, Salah’s comments suggested that his time at Anfield might soon come to an end, especially as the club has yet to present a contract extension.
“We are almost in December and I haven’t received any offers yet to stay at the club,” Salah said. “I’m probably more out than in.”
The Egyptian international, who has won both the Champions League and Premier League titles with Liverpool, acknowledged his long-standing connection with the club but emphasized that his future is not solely in his hands.
“You know I have been at the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands,” he explained.
Salah is not alone in facing uncertainty, as teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also in the final year of their contracts, with all three players able to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January if no agreements are reached.
Regarding his current situation, Salah added, “Of course, yeah. I love the fans, and the fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans’ hands. Let’s wait and see.”
The 31-year-old forward, however, remained focused on his responsibilities on the field. “I’m not going to retire soon, so I’m just playing, focusing on the season, and I’m trying to win the Premier League and hopefully the Champions League as well,” he said. “I’m disappointed, but we will see.”
As the transfer window approaches, Liverpool fans will hope that the club resolves Salah’s future soon, though for now, the star forward is keeping his focus on helping the team secure further success this season.
