Arsenal are ramping up efforts to secure RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, their top target for the summer transfer window, as competition from European giants Barcelona intensifies.

The 21-year-old Slovenian striker, who has been turning heads with his performances, reportedly agreed to a £60 million “gentleman’s agreement” with RB Leipzig, allowing him to leave at the end of the season. While the German club remains committed to this deal, they might entertain a substantial offer in January. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking options, especially after missing out on Sesko last summer when the player opted to remain in Leipzig for another season.

Barcelona’s interest in Sesko adds urgency to Arsenal’s pursuit. The Spanish club, despite their financial constraints and struggles to adhere to La Liga’s stringent financial regulations, are actively monitoring the forward. Arsenal, however, remain confident they are well-positioned to secure Sesko’s signature, as the striker’s representatives previously engaged with several Premier League clubs, identifying the Gunners as a prime destination.

Arsenal are also considering alternatives, including Juventus forward Dušan Vlahović and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres. Meanwhile, Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams is on their radar, though his £300,000-a-week wage demands and £55 million release clause have been significant hurdles.

Arteta acknowledged the need for reinforcements during a press conference, stating:
“At the moment, we don’t have the attacking options we need. We are actively exploring the market to find the best solution, but it will depend on what we can achieve. Losing two key players in the front line has left us needing support.”

With Arsenal aiming to strengthen their squad for the ongoing Premier League campaign, the pursuit of Sesko could prove decisive in their quest to compete at the highest level. The coming weeks will determine whether Arsenal can outmaneuver Barcelona and other suitors to secure one of Europe’s brightest young talents.
