Alan Shearer has weighed in on the Premier League’s Boxing Day fixtures, tipping Liverpool for another big win while casting doubt on Manchester United’s chances against struggling Wolves.
Liverpool, who head into Christmas at the top of the Premier League, will face Leicester on Thursday, with Alan Shearer confident that the Reds will extend their impressive run under new head coach Arne Slot. Since Slot’s arrival at Anfield, Liverpool has lost just one league game, and Shearer believes their fine form will continue against a vulnerable Leicester side.
“I fear for Leicester in this one,” Shearer said. “I watched them concede four goals against Newcastle and three against Wolves recently, and they look all over the place defensively. With their current form, I can see Liverpool taking full advantage, and they may score a few.”
Meanwhile, Shearer isn’t optimistic about Manchester United’s chances as they travel to Wolves. The Old Trafford side has been in poor form, and Shearer believes they could struggle against a Wolves team that has shown signs of improvement under new manager Vitor Pereira.
“Wolves’ win against Leicester was huge for them and their new boss. To beat Leicester in the way they did was a massive confidence boost,” Shearer explained. “On the other hand, Manchester United has been underperforming in every area, and I think they’ll find this game difficult. I’m predicting a draw for this one.”
As for other fixtures, Shearer expects Arsenal to secure a win against Ipswich Town and backs Manchester City to bounce back with a victory over Everton. Despite City’s recent struggles, including a disappointing loss to Aston Villa, Shearer believes Pep Guardiola’s side will regain form at home.
“Everton has impressed with draws against Arsenal and Chelsea, but I think Manchester City will get back to winning ways,” Shearer said. “City has been poor recently, especially in midfield, but with the home advantage, I believe they’ll manage to get three points against Everton.”
Shearer’s verdicts provide an intriguing outlook for the Boxing Day fixtures, with Liverpool looking to maintain their position at the top, while Manchester United’s troubles continue to deepen.
