After Manchester United’s disheartening 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday, manager Erik ten Hag delivered an encouraging message to his players, stating, “Tomorrow is a new day.” The loss marked a tough evening for United, who fell behind early to Brennan Johnson’s goal just three minutes into the match. The situation worsened when Bruno Fernandes received a controversial red card, further complicating United’s efforts on the pitch.
In the second half, goals from Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke compounded United’s woes, leading to their third defeat of the season and leaving them languishing in 12th place in the Premier League with only seven points from six games. This defeat followed a previous 3-0 loss at home to rivals Liverpool, raising significant concerns among fans and pundits alike.
Despite the mounting pressure, Ten Hag remained resolute and optimistic about his position. “There is always a new day,” he reassured his players in the dressing room. “Come on. Tomorrow, a new day. We will bounce back, I’m sure.” He expressed confidence in the club’s ownership and their commitment to support him through this challenging phase.
Addressing speculation about his future, Ten Hag emphasized, “I am not thinking about this. We all made the decision in the summer to stay together as an ownership and leadership group. We understood the improvements needed, and how we wanted to construct a squad. We-knew it would take time, especially with late arrivals like Manuel Ugarte.”

He acknowledged the need for organizational improvements, particularly with ongoing injury issues. But assured that everyone at the club—ownership, staff, and players—was unified in their goals. “I don’t have that concern,” he stated confidently.
Looking ahead, United has an opportunity to rebound quickly, with a Europa League match against FC Porto followed by a trip to Aston Villa. However, former player Gary Neville suggested that the squad should hold a meeting without Ten Hag to address the team’s performance and dynamics. “They’ve got to decide what they want to do,” he advised on Sky Sports. “Erik ten Hag has many friends in that dressing room who have worked with him before. They need to regain control of the situation quickly, as the first half today was not promising.”
As Manchester United prepares for its next challenges, the focus will, therefore, be on bouncing back and, additionally, restoring confidence within the squad.
