Pep Guardiola has expressed his support for Bayern Munich’s potential appointment of Vincent Kompany as their new manager, stating, “I have the highest opinion of his work.”

Bayern Munich is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to bring Kompany on board following the departure of Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season. Kompany, who led Burnley to the Championship title in the 2022/23 season, faced challenges keeping them in the Premier League this term.

Despite Burnley’s relegation, Guardiola, who managed Kompany for three years at Manchester City, believes his former player would be a successful addition to Bayern. The German club had a difficult season, failing to secure any trophies for the first time in 12 years and losing the Bundesliga title to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

“I’m happy the link has happened for Bayern to Vinny,” Guardiola said. “I have a huge opinion about Vinny, regardless of the relegation with Burnley. From what I observed while playing against him and knowing him, I have the highest opinion of his work, personality, his knowledge of the game, and how he handles the media.”

Guardiola emphasized his love for Bayern Munich and his confidence in their decision-making process. “I love that club. I’m in love with Bayern Munich for many, many reasons. Hopefully, they take the best decision. If they believe Vinny is the right choice, they will have a guy to support unconditionally.”

As Guardiola prepares to lead Manchester City in the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley, he reflected on the impermanence of success.

City recently secured the Premier League title with a 3-1 win over West Ham and are aiming for a domestic double for the second consecutive season.

“Our team is here, and maybe tomorrow will be different, next season will be different with the same manager, same players, same team; it can be different, nothing is eternal,” Guardiola remarked ahead of the final. “There are periods in history. Always when you have a long history, there are periods.”

He advised enjoying the current success and striving to sustain it. “You have to enjoy it now and sustain it as long as possible,” Guardiola added, underscoring the importance of appreciating and maintaining their current achievements.
