AC Milan have parted ways with head coach Paulo Fonseca after less than six months at the helm, following a turbulent period at the club. The decision came shortly after Milan’s 2024 calendar year ended in a 1-1 draw with a team from the capital, but the focus quickly shifted to Fonseca’s future in the lead-up to the match.

Reports emerged before the game that Fonseca could be facing his final match in charge of the Rossoneri. Rumors intensified following the draw, with several sources claiming that Porto’s Sergio Conceicao was set to take over the managerial role at Milan.

As Fonseca left the San Siro, reporters caught up with the Portuguese coach, who confirmed his departure, marking the end of his brief tenure at the club. Though the club had yet to issue an official statement, AC Milan later confirmed his sacking on their official website.

In a brief statement, Milan expressed their gratitude to Fonseca for his professionalism during his time at the club. “The Club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours,” the club said.

Fonseca’s departure follows a mixed record of 12 wins, six draws, and six defeats from his 24 matches in charge. Despite a promising start, Milan’s inconsistent form ultimately led to his dismissal, with the club now set to look ahead to a new managerial era under Conceicao.
