Despite the World Cup setback, Nigeria did show some promise by reaching the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco, where they finished third. However, the failure to qualify for the biggest stage in world football remains a major concern for fans and stakeholders.
Meanwhile, DR Congo secured their place at the World Cup, marking their first appearance since 1974. They achieved this milestone by defeating Jamaica 1-0 in the inter-confederation playoff final.
As Nigeria look ahead, the focus will now be on rebuilding the squad and improving their chances in future international competitions.
