An MLS club, Minnesota United, is pursuing Manchester United assistant coach Eric Ramsay to become their next manager, potentially making him the youngest manager in league history.
Reportedly, Minnesota United and Manchester United are currently negotiating Ramsay’s potential move, considering he is presently under contract with the Red Devils. Ramsay, at just 32 years old, is highly sought-after globally.
Following the departure of Adrian Heath at the end of the previous season, marking the end of his tenure as the only coach in the club’s seven-year MLS history, Minnesota United embarked on an extensive coaching search. Sporting director Khaled El-Ahmad led the search, considering candidates from both domestic and international backgrounds. Interim coach Cameron Knowles will continue leading the team until Ramsay’s expected arrival.
Minnesota United will commence their eighth MLS regular season against Austin FC on Saturday. Last season, they failed to reach the MLS Cup Playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.
Ramsay, who has coaching experience beyond his role at Manchester United, previously served as an assistant coach for the Wales national team. Wales manager Rob Page lauded Ramsay as “arguably one of the best young coaches in football at this moment in time.”
The potential departure of Ramsay from Manchester United would be a significant loss for head coach Erik ten Hag, who values Ramsay as one of his top assistants. Ten Hag retained Ramsay’s services when he transitioned from Ajax to Manchester United, despite Ramsay’s initial appointment by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Manchester United currently sits in sixth place in the Premier League table, having secured a four-game winning streak. Despite this success, Ten Hag has expressed frustration over budget restrictions imposed on the team, hindering their progress following last year’s third-place finish.
