The highly anticipated Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool, originally scheduled to take place at Goodison Park at 12:30 PM on Saturday, has been postponed due to the severe impact of Storm Darragh. Strong winds reaching up to 70 mph, coupled with widespread travel disruption and safety concerns, prompted the decision early Saturday morning.
The postponement was confirmed following a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group at Goodison Park. Which included officials from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council. The group determined that the amber severe wind warning in place until 6:00 AM on Sunday posed significant safety risks in the local area.

A joint statement released by Everton and Liverpool read:
“Due to the risk to safety in the local area caused by strong wind gusts and travel disruptions, today’s fixture has been postponed on safety grounds. We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but the safety of supporters, staff, and players is paramount.”
Everton expressed its apologies to fans, adding, “We thank supporters for their understanding. Information regarding the rescheduled date for the fixture will be announced soon. All tickets purchased for the original fixture will remain valid for the rearranged match.”
Liverpool echoed the sentiments, highlighting the postponement’s necessity. Notably, the match would have been the final league derby held at Goodison Park, adding to the disappointment for fans.
The adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh have disrupted sporting events nationwide. Other postponements include:
- League One: Bristol Rovers v Bolton and Crawley v Stevenage
- League Two: Newport v Carlisle and MK Dons v Barrow
- Championship: Cardiff v Watford and Plymouth v Oxford
- Horse Racing: Saturday’s meetings at Aintree and Chepstow
- Women’s Rugby: Bristol Bears Women v Exeter Chiefs
Despite the weather, Sandown’s race meeting proceeded following a morning inspection.
Fans are advised to stay tuned for updates regarding rescheduled fixtures and to prioritize their safety during this period of severe weather.
